RRB Railway Photo & Signature Size 2026
Across railway exams — RRB NTPC and Group D— the photo is generally 20–50 KB and the signature 10–30 KB, both JPG on a white background, uploaded through rrbapply.gov.in. RRB is strict on printed dates, white backgrounds, and black ink. Pick your exam below for a locked preset and a step-by-step guide, or compare them first.
Railway exams compared
| Exam | Photo | Signature | Note |

Railway specifications vary more than most between CEN notifications. Always confirm the exact requirements in your notification at rrbapply.gov.in before submitting.

How railway photo & signature uploads work
RRB applications go through rrbapply.gov.in, and recent notifications capture a live photograph via your webcam or mobile camera during the application rather than accepting a saved file for that step. Whichever applies to your CEN, the photo must be on a plain white background with a clearly visible face — no cap or sunglasses.
Two railway-specific rules catch people out: the date the photo was taken must usually be printed on it, and the signature should be in black ink and running hand — block capitals and, in many cycles, blue ink are rejected. Each exam page below has a preset locked to that exam's requirement.
Railway photo & signature — FAQ
Is the photo size the same for all railway exams?
Broadly yes. RRB uses a unified image system, so NTPC and Group D commonly need a photo around 20–50 KB and a signature around 10–30 KB, both JPG on a white background. But the exact ranges are set per CEN notification and can differ, so confirm the spec for your specific exam.
Can I use one photo for RRB NTPC and Group D?
Not automatically. Although RRB's system is broadly unified, each CEN notification sets its own file-size range and sometimes different pixel dimensions. Do not assume the same file passes for both — resize to the spec printed in each exam's notification.
Does the railway photo need a printed date?
Most RRB notifications require the date the photograph was taken to be printed on the photo. An image without the date is a common reason applications get rejected during scrutiny. Add it before uploading.
What ink should the railway signature use?
Use black ink to be safe. RRB is stricter than most exam bodies here, and several notifications require black ink and reject blue. The signature must be in running hand, never block capitals, on plain white paper.
What format does RRB accept?
Only JPG/JPEG is accepted for the photograph and signature. A plain white background is mandatory — a coloured background is one of the most common rejection reasons for railway photos.
