Amazon Product Image Size: 2000×2000, Pure White
Amazon's main image needs a pure white background at RGB 255,255,255, the product filling 85% of the frame, and at least 1600 px on the longest side for zoom to work. This tool outputs 2000 × 2000 and fills transparency with true white. It runs in your browser, so your product shots are never uploaded.
Set the output format to JPG
If you upload a PNG, this tool keeps PNG as the output format by default — which preserves transparency. That is the wrong thing for Amazon.
Switch the output to JPG. On the JPG path the canvas is filled with #ffffff — RGB 255,255,255 — before your image is drawn, so any transparent area becomes exactly the white Amazon requires. JPEG is also the format Amazon prefers for uploads.
Why the main image is the one that matters
Amazon's image rules are scattered across several Seller Central pages, and most of them are advisory. The main image rules are not.
The main image is the thumbnail in search results, it carries your click-through rate, and it is the one element Amazon will suppress your entire listing over. A suppressed listing does not rank, does not convert and does not appear in search at all until you fix it. Your copy can be mediocre and your listing still sells; your main image can be non-compliant and your listing effectively disappears.
Pure white means exactly 255,255,255
This is the single most common rejection, and it is a rule people break without realising because their eye tells them the background is white.
Amazon does not mean a white studio backdrop. It means RGB 255, 255, 255 — maximum on all three channels, zero colour information. A background photographed on white paper is usually somewhere around 245–250 with a slight colour cast from the lighting. That reads as white to you and as not-white to an automated checker.
The reason is the page itself: Amazon's background is also pure white, so a true 255 background blends invisibly and the product appears to float. Anything slightly off shows up as a visible grey rectangle in the search grid.
Check it properly. Open the file in any editor and sample the corner pixels. Do not trust your monitor — screen calibration and ambient light both make near-white look identical to white.

How to prepare your main image
- Start from a photo with the product already isolated on a transparent background, or shot on a genuinely white sweep.
- Upload it here — the target is already set to 2000 × 2000.
- Set the output format to JPG. This is what fills any transparent area with pure white and produces the format Amazon prefers.
- Check the product fills at least 85% of the frame, with only a thin white margin around it.
- Download, then verify the corner pixels read 255,255,255 in any image editor before you upload to Seller Central.
Why Amazon main images get rejected
- A background that is off-white, light grey, or carries a colour cast from the lighting.
- Shadows falling onto the background rather than being clipped out.
- The product filling well under 85% of the frame, floating in white space.
- Text, a badge, a "Best Seller" sticker or a brand logo added to the image.
- Props or accessories that are not included in what the buyer receives.
- Packaging shown as the main image when the packaging is not the product.
- An illustration, render or mockup instead of a photograph.
- A file under 1000 px, which blocks zoom entirely and looks soft on retina screens.
One honest note: this tool sizes your image correctly and fills transparency with true white. It cannot remove a background that is already in the photo, judge whether your product fills 85% of the frame, or check your colour mode. Amazon revises its policies periodically — confirm the current rules in Seller Central before a large upload.
Amazon product image — FAQ
What size should an Amazon product image be?
2000 × 2000 pixels is the practical target. Amazon's absolute minimum is 1000 px on the longest side, but zoom only activates at 1600 px and above, and zoom is one of the strongest conversion features on a listing. The maximum is 10,000 px. Square is the standard because Amazon's search grid displays thumbnails square.
What does pure white actually mean?
RGB 255, 255, 255 — the maximum value on all three channels, with no colour information at all. Amazon does not mean a white-ish studio backdrop. A light grey, cream or subtly tinted background gets flagged by automated detection. Sample the corner pixels in an editor rather than judging by eye; screens lie about white.
Why is the background rule so strict?
Amazon's own page background is pure white. A background at exactly 255,255,255 blends into the page so the product appears to float, and every thumbnail in the search grid looks consistent. Anything off-white shows as a visible rectangle against the page.
How much of the frame should the product fill?
At least 85%. Photos taken from too far back, with a lot of empty white around the product, get flagged — and even when they pass, they make your thumbnail look small next to competitors in the search grid, which costs click-through.
What happens if my main image breaks the rules?
Amazon can suppress the listing. A suppressed listing does not rank, does not convert and does not appear in search at all until the image is fixed. This is not a cosmetic issue — it is the one element that can take a live listing off the site.
What is not allowed on the main image?
Text, logos, watermarks, badges, borders, promotional stickers, props or accessories that are not part of what you are selling, multiple products unless sold as a multipack, and mannequins outside certain apparel categories. Illustrations and mockups are also out; it has to be a photograph of the actual product.
Can this tool give me a pure white background?
Yes, if your image already has a transparent background. Upload a transparent PNG, set the output format to JPG, and the tool fills the transparent area with RGB 255,255,255 — exactly Amazon's requirement. What it cannot do is remove a background that is already there. If your photo was shot against a wall or a table, you need to cut the product out first.
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. The resize runs entirely inside your browser. Your product photos never leave your device — which matters if you are working on listings that have not launched yet.
