What is a HEIC file?
HEIC is the photo format iPhones use by default. It stores photos at about half the size of a JPG with the same quality — but many websites, Windows apps and government forms cannot open it, which is why you often need to convert it to JPG.

Why won't my iPhone photo upload to an exam form?
Most Indian exam portals — SSC, UPSC, IBPS, NEET — accept only JPG or JPEG. An iPhone photo is usually HEIC, so the portal rejects it. Convert it to JPG here first, then resize it to the required KB.
Does converting HEIC to JPG lose quality?
There is a small quality loss because both are compressed formats, but at a high quality setting (90 or above) it is not visible. The quality slider above lets you choose.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using WebAssembly. Your photos never leave your device, so nothing is uploaded anywhere.
Can I stop my iPhone taking HEIC photos?
Yes. On your iPhone go to Settings, then Camera, then Formats, and choose 'Most Compatible'. Your iPhone will then take JPG photos instead. The trade-off is roughly double the file size.
