Why this one is different

Every other background remover works the same way: you upload your photo to a server, the server processes it, and you get a result back. That means handing your image to a company — and background removal is used on exactly the photos people are most careful about. Product shots for unlaunched listings. Photos of family. ID pictures.

This tool downloads the AI model to your browser and runs it there. Your image is never transmitted. Not uploaded and deleted quickly — never uploaded at all. There is no server that could keep it.

What it does well, and what it does not

Works well: a single clear subject on a plain or contrasting background. Products on white, grey or seamless sweeps. People in medium shots with decent lighting. Objects with hard defined edges — boxes, bottles, furniture, tools, shoes. A good rule of thumb: if you could trace the outline by hand without thinking about it, the tool will handle it.

Struggles with: fine hair and fur, which is the classic hard case and where paid services earn their money. Thin repeating structures like bike spokes, wire mesh, lace and chain. Transparent or reflective materials — glass, bottles, cellophane, polished chrome. Gaps between clustered objects, where background can stay trapped inside the subject. Low-contrast scenes where the subject is close in tone to what is behind it. And multiple separated subjects, where it tends to pick one and drop the rest.

Will not work: screenshots, flat graphics, documents and diagrams. The model looks for a physical subject in a photograph; when there is not one, there is nothing for it to find. It works on photographs of things, not on pictures of screens.

This is a small model running locally, not a large one on a GPU. If you need flawless hair edges for a magazine cover, a paid service will do better. For a marketplace listing, a profile picture or a social graphic, this is usually enough — and it does not cost anything or require your photo to leave your device.

Selling on Amazon?

Amazon requires main product images on a pure white background at exactly RGB 255,255,255, with the product filling at least 85% of the frame. Remove the background here, switch the output to JPG so the transparency is filled with true white, then size it on the Amazon product image page. Off-white backgrounds are the single most common reason Amazon suppresses a listing.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No, and this is the whole point of the tool. The AI model is downloaded to your browser and the image is processed on your device. Nothing is transmitted. You can confirm it by opening your browser's developer tools, watching the Network tab, and removing a background — you will see the model download once, and no upload of your image ever.

Why is the first use slow?

Because your browser downloads about 17 MB the first time — the segmentation model and the runtime that executes it. That is the cost of processing locally instead of sending your photo to someone else's server. It is cached afterwards, so subsequent images start immediately.

How good is it compared to paid services?

Honestly, not as good. Paid services run large models on server GPUs. This is a small model running on your device with no GPU assumed. It handles clear subjects on contrasting backgrounds well — products, objects, people in reasonable lighting. It struggles with fine hair, fur, transparent materials and subjects that blend into the background. If you need broadcast-quality edge work, a paid service will beat it.

Can I get a pure white background instead of transparency?

Yes. After processing, switch the output to JPG and the transparent area is filled with RGB 255,255,255 — exactly what Amazon requires for main product images. Switching is instant because the cutout is already computed.

What file types can I use?

JPG, PNG and WebP. Output is PNG with transparency, or JPG on pure white. Output is capped at 2000 pixels on the longest side, which comfortably covers marketplace and social requirements.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes, though more slowly, and the initial 17 MB download is worth being aware of on mobile data. A desktop browser is the better experience for a batch of images.

Is there a limit on how many images I can do?

You can queue up to 20 images at a time, and there is no limit on how many batches you run. No account, no quota, no watermark. Once the model is cached each image costs nothing but the seconds of processing, because the work happens on your machine rather than on a server we pay for.
