Why height is worth more on Pinterest
Most social feeds are a single column. Every post gets the same slot, and aspect ratio changes how much of that slot you fill.
Pinterest is a masonry grid — pins of different heights sit side by side in columns, packed together. A taller pin does not just fill its slot better; it physically takes more of the screen than the pin next to it. Height is real estate in a way it is not anywhere else.
That is the whole reason 2:3 is the recommended ratio rather than square. A square pin is not rejected or penalised — it just occupies less space, so fewer people stop on it.
And the ceiling that stops you going taller
