WebP Converter — FAQ

What is WebP?

WebP is a modern image format developed by Google. It compresses images roughly 25–35% smaller than JPG at similar quality, which makes web pages load faster. Every modern browser supports it.

How do I convert a WebP file to JPG?

Choose 'WebP to JPG' above, upload your file, and download the converted JPG. This is useful when you download a WebP image from a website and an older app or upload form can't open it.

Should I convert my website images to WebP?

Usually yes. WebP files are smaller than JPG or PNG at the same visual quality, so pages load faster — which helps both users and SEO. Every current browser supports WebP.

Does converting to WebP lose quality?

WebP is a lossy format by default, so some quality is traded for a much smaller file. At the default quality of 85 the difference is usually invisible. Use the slider to go higher if you need it.

What happens to transparent PNGs?

Converting a transparent PNG to WebP keeps the transparency. Converting to JPG does not — JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white.

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser. Your images never leave your device, so nothing is uploaded anywhere.
